Sharing is caring!

I am typically brand loyal, but lately, I have jumped from one brand to another in a desperate search to find the perfect hair care routine. I only use cruelty-free products, and there aren’t that many available. Finding a brand that fits my values is difficult. If you have read any of my other blogs, you will know that I am postmenopausal, which means several things. Dry everything. From Skin to hair.

Why Gisou?

Since going grey, my hair has become dry, almost straw-like, and unmanageable. So I have been looking for quality hair care that I feel good about using. The product I chose had to be of high quality, ethically sourced ingredients, and performed as advertised. I have seen and read several reviews on Gisou, but the reviews were not of mature age, nor did they have grey hair. I needed a product that was gentle and nourishing. Enter Gisou. I visited their website to learn more about the product and was impressed with the brand and curious about the product claims. Gisou offers a bundle of their best sellers, “Heroes Set,” so I purchased it to give it a try. The Heroes Set includes Honey Infused Hair Oil Mini 20ml, Honey Infused Hair Mask Mini 25ml, and Honey Infused Hair Perfume 50ml for $55 plus tax & shipping.

The Gisou Story

In her video, Mirsalehi remembers that her mother would slather her strands in a honey-based concoction she created using honey from the Mirsalehi family bee garden. The garden, located in the Netherlands, has been in the Mirsalehi family for more than six generations. After developing a career as an influencer, Mirsalehi decided to bring a variation of her mother’s honey-based creation to the masses. Enter: Gisou.

Gisou, which translates to “golden hair lock” in Persian, was created in 2015 by model and mega-influencer Negin Mirsalehi and her co-founder Maurits Stibbe. The honey-based hairline is inspired by Mirsalehi’s parents—her mother is a hairdresser, and her father is a beekeeper—resulting from her passion for beauty and bees.

Excited at the possibility of having soft, shiny, healthy hair, I tore into the box containing my Gisou products and went straight to the shower. Hoping that would be the last time my hair felt like straw. I proceeded to wash my hair (another brand) and rinse. Next, I scooped some of the hair mask out of the jar, put it in my palm, then added a few drops of the hair oil, mixed it, and applied it to my hair. I continued with my shower as I let the mask do its thing. After several minutes I rinsed the mask out and could not believe how soft and hydrated my hair felt. My hair isn’t 100% yet, but I believe my hair will be soft and hydrated after several treatments with the mask. See below for an update.

Here are 3 Benefits of honey on your hair, according to healthline.com.

  1. Honey promotes epithelial cell growth, therefore crucial for the follicles and ducts on your scalp.
  2. Good for conditioning treatments to restore moisture to your hair. It also contains plenty of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and antioxidants.
  3. Honey has emollient and humectant properties, making it great for hair moisturizing, and the emollients smooth the hair follicles. Honey can help restore the natural luster of your hair.

I could go on, but you get the idea. Honey is a great natural hair product.

Honey-Infused Hair Oil

Claim – Nourish, Repair, Protect

it is formulated to rebuild and repair hair to the core. Honey is a natural *humectant and maintains the hair’s moisture balance, resulting in healthy, soft, and more substantial locks with a silky shine. The hair oil is multipurpose and can be used as a pre-styling and finishing product, an addition to a hair mask, and an overnight treatment.

My review – I added a couple of drops to the hair mask at the beginning of my shower and left it while I continued showering. While rinsing the mask out, I could feel a difference with the first treatment. My hair felt silky soft and much healthier. I am interested to see how my hair looks and feels after several uses. See below for an update. 10/10

Honey Infused Hair Mask

Claim – Nourish, Repair, Hydrate

Enriched with Mirsalehi Honey formulated to hydrate and replenish hair while improving its elasticity, shine, and health. It, too, is multipurpose. The hair mask can be used in several different ways on wet, damp, or dry hair. For example, in the shower as a deep conditioning treatment or an overnight treatment.

My review – I combined it with the hair oil for my first treatment and could immediately tell the difference in my hair in terms of hydration. Since my initial use, I have used the mask alone, and my hair texture and health continue to improve. See below for an update on my thoughts. 10/10

Honey Infused Hair Perfume

Claim – Hydrate, Nourish, Refresh, Add Shine

The hair perfume is also enriched with Mirsalehi Honey. It is formulated to refresh and scent hair with Gisou’s signature fragrance. The fragrance has a trail of floral notes from the Mirsalehi Bee Garden and adds moisture and shine.

My Review: While hair perfume is unnecessary, it is nice to have. As a refresher and added shine, I do like the scent. However, I have noticed that the scent does not linger on my hair very long. 8/10

Is Gisou worth the money?

In my opinion and for my hair concerns, yes. My goal was to find a product that, while being sustainable and ethically sourced, would nourish my dehydrated hair and add shine. This product has done that for me, and when I have used up my travel sizes, I will be repurchasing the regular size. If a product is going to produce the results of its claims, it is worth it. If they check all of the boxes for you, I would start with the travel size to see if you like the product and if it will resolve any of the problems you may have.

Update on my thoughts and hair journey

I have been using the Gisou products for two weeks, washing my hair every other day. Honestly, my hair feels silky smooth in the shower and is more manageable. I allow my hair to air dry and am pleased with how it looks in its natural state. Occasionally, I do curl my hair with either a curling iron or the no-heat method, and my hair has lots of body and, so far, no frizz. Living in Northeast Florida, the humidity is no joke. But, every time I use the hair mask and oil, it seems as though my hair is getting healthier.

If you are curious, I suggest you visit the Gisou.com website and read more about the products and story.
