Understanding our body and menopause

First, let’s understand what happens to our bodies during menopause to see where we need to make changes and how they will benefit us in the long run.

Our ovaries no longer produce progesterone, estrogen, and testosterone. According to Dr. Mendy Pelz, “The decline in estrogen often increases the tendency towards insulin resistance. So the weight loss habits that once worked for you in your 30s may suddenly fall short. This means that menopausal women must implement lifestyle changes that adapt to the changes happening in their bodies—specifically giving more attention to managing blood sugar and insulin levels with fasting and diet to avoid insulin resistance. “She also stated, “the final thing you might notice during menopause is the effects of testosterone and progesterone depletion. This often looks like irritability, anxiety, poor sleep, low libido, and the inability to put on muscle. This often requires giving additional support to the adrenal glands in stress-reducing activities and adrenal support supplements.”

After reading Dr. Pelz’s post, I understood and accepted the changes happening within my body. They were a natural process of being a woman.

I continued my research and decided to make a few changes to see what would happen. Little back story, I have followed a Keto diet for years and noticed that it wasn’t working as well as it had before. I was tired, cranky, emotional, and could not sleep. I was desperate.

The hot flashes. There is nothing on earth that can compare. They are indeed the devil.

Now let’s talk about what I did

4 Steps to managing menopause without HRT

Step 1. Stopped drinking alcohol

Step 2. Carnivore Diet

Step 3. All-natural fiber clothing

Step 4. Added vitamins and minerals to my routine

These four easy steps helped me control my menopause symptoms.

My Steps In Action

1. Alcohol. As we age, alcohol tolerance decreases, and it takes the body longer to break down alcohol. Alcohol also has an impact on the body’s ability to metabolize estrogen, levels of which are already fluctuating during menopause. After drinking any alcoholic beverage, I noticed that my hot flashes and night sweats were intolerable. So I stopped drinking all of it. It was worth the sacrifice, and I started feeling better.

2. Diet. I mentioned that the Keto diet didn’t work well for me, so I went to the carnivore diet. I purchased my meat from ButcherBox. Their meat is grass-fed, with no hormones, antibiotics, and humanly raised. This was a game-changer. I did gain weight but not as much as I could have, putting clean food in my body. If you haven’t seen any of Thomas DeLauer’s videos on the subject, I have one linked below. Make sure you go check it out.

I am now postmenopausal and working on losing the 30 pounds I gained.

3. Clothing. I found I had more frequent hot flashes when I wore clothes that contained polyester. So I conducted an experiment and started wearing more cotton and linen in my closet and found that the natural material helped me cool a lot quicker. I didn’t feel like I was insulated. Could it be all in my head? Yes, of course. But I felt better, so I’m going with it. I shopped Poshmark for a majority of my pieces. 4. Supplements. I wanted a supplement that was ethically sourced and of exceptional quality. I looked into several brands and settled on CareOf.

I signed up and completed the survey. Based on my survey, I received recommendations on what I needed to replace in my diet. I received my recommended supplements, and I am still taking them today. Use my code for 50% off of your first order.

Let’s talk dollar and sense.

Now, the cost of HRT for me was around $80-100 per month. The ButcherBox cost for my custom subscription was $140 a month. A price I was happy to pay for clean, quality, humane food. I am healthier than when I entered menopause and would take the same steps if I had to do it.

Long story short, I did it, and you can do it too!

I encourage you to do your research and experiment with different options like I did. I am happy I didn’t add additional chemicals to my body. Instead, I maintained a healthy and clean diet, and I could not be happier.
